Great news.
Looking forward to you blogging more frequently.
After this site goes up, you are out of excuses - no school, no mid-atlantic conference (yo, we should start talking about the next one), no planting the Plant, it already has a ton of momentum.
We should see no less than 5 posts a day.

I heard Crunchy Con on "Speaking of Faith." He's a cool Republican (oxymoron?).

I loved this post!

I do think the argument could be made that Obama is not yet in power. However, if Obama is going to turn this into a socialist nation, then, I'm sure the internet and Google will be nice tools to find out who the haters were.

What I keep telling people is - the world survived Rome, Hitler, Stalin, and worse leaders so...I doubt anyone is worried he is like these things but if they do think he is, then, we'll survive.

Remember that the average american's opinions, fears, etc are not motivated by logic or informed discourse, but rather by hating the other side, ignorance, and believing just about anything about "the other guy."

And as far as the few informed and thoughtful people who might say things like "USSA" -- please look up the word "hyperbole."

While I agree with you that all of this Obama hate/fear is out of hand, I would put that all aside and challenge your premise that honestly believing socialism was approaching is a reason to be quiet -- to quote West Wing (as closely as I can remember), "Never believe that a group of thoughtful, dedicated citizens can't change the world."

If I honestly though we were becoming another USSR, I'd be shouting it from the rooftops and trying to do whatever possible to fight it, regardless of the potential repercussions if it does indeed come -- because if nobody does anything, then it surely would.

Are you really bipartisan? I would suggest that you offer one from the third party, too. What is the third party, again? Oh well, just find one.

I agree with much of what you have to say. I think we have abandoned metaphor. I think we have done damage to art. I've been encouraging my students to read the Bible as art and not a scientific textbook (not sure if this directly applies, but I just wanted to point out how cool I am).

The key is that a lot of Christian art that is anything close to mainstream targets "the most insular Christian audiences." In general, many things lose much of their value when they are targeted at the least common denominator. I don't think it would be fair to call all of evangelicalism insular -- parts of it, of course.
